Blurry photo time! Somehow this always happens when I’m wearing neutrals.

I wonder sometimes why there are people who choose not to wear any green on St. Patrick’s Day. I’m not even Irish (I’m half-Scottish) but I will take any chance to wear green. Plus I feel like if the print is Oriental-inspired, then I’m not being too prosaic.

Deep in Christmas vacations. The Boyfriend and I sort of hibernated in his basement working on grad apps (the Boyfriend), reading books (me), and watching Netflix (yeah! again, mostly me.)

Last day of classes. The Boyfriend and I took it easy and I made a beautiful quinoa risotto for supper - accompanied, of course, by a beer.

We had one last perfect fall day on Thursday of last week. It was sunny, crisp, the leaves were golden and crimson, and the temperature was in the teens. It was a beautiful farewell to autumn, I think.

The Boyfriend and I took a walk around to Main Street and then home again for a lovely evening of Community-watching.

I really love this outfit because I thought of combining pretty much all of my current favorite pieces in my wardrobe with one of my summer staples - I love how the grandpa sweater, the lace undershirt, and the romper all coalesce so well together. A match made in heaven, really. Plus, these colors are not only perfect fall colors, but they’re perfect with the way my hair color has faded out at the moment.

This grandpa sweater, I can’t get enough of it. I pinned a brooch from one of my other vests on it with bright topaz and cyan glass costume jewelry on it, and it makes it all the more kitsch. I love it.

This is the back detail of both the undershirt and the romper. Just another part of the outfit that made me delighted to have figured it out.

Saved by Old Times.

This was a good weekend for producing outfits. Sometimes, when I pack the right combination of limited items for a weekend away, everything just goes wonderfully. I’m wearing this skirt more and more because it’s incredibly versatile - there’s an elastic empire waistline on this shirt, so I pulled the skirt up to meet it and then belted them together and the skirt, it turns out, looks wonderful at this height. Just the right amount of volume. And don’t even get me started on how much I love the interplay between the lace on the shirt and the two patterns on the skirt and the tights.

A perfect outfit for a perfect day, which involved scouring a dusty second-hand bookstores for several treasures (like Proust! and Raymond Williams! and Pinter for my mother!), getting caramel apples (as seen above), playing with the Boyfriend’s four-year-old goddaughter and baking a pumpkin pie with her limited but adorable help, and finally sharing a quiet and delicious Thanksgiving dinner with the Boyfriend’s parents.

Meet Me in the Morning.

We’re going through an Indian summer right now in Nova Scotia - so humidity and heat are reigning, and cut-offs are making a comeback. They’re classy if you wear them with lace, right?

You’re going to be able to tell the days when I don’t have lab, because I’ll be wearing sandals and not boots. This was a day without lab. Note, however, that this is a relatively unflattering photograph. I’m not quite into my stride yet.

Sunday was the Boyfriend’s last day here in the prairies. We walked over the bridge to downtown, and then along the pseudo-boardwalk along the river valley. We had brunch at a beautiful cafe (the Boyfriend had local grilled sausage with poached eggs, I had a smoked salmon frittata, they provided small dainty little pastries to start), shopped around the lovely stores in the area (I found proper Turkish Delight again! Oh, the rosewater and powdered sugar delight of it.), and finally read in the local park for a few hours, surrounded by playing children, running dogs, and sort of ominous tai chi practice.

Me, on the walk (somewhat more practical shoes)
